Police chief tips hat to Hogfest officials
Posted Feb 2, 2012 By EMC NewsEMC News -Stirling - Police say things were quiet around Stirling last week but driving was treacherous as officers responded to several accidents resulting from slippery road conditions.
Police Chief Brian Foley says road conditions played a part in about eight crashes last week, but he cautions, drivers need to slow down to accommodate for wintry weather and avoid a trip off the road.
Among the primarily minor single-vehicle accidents reported, was a Thursday morning upset of a municipal sanding truck. No official cost estimate was available for the recently retrofitted truck but Foley and Mayor Rodney Cooney say damage was extensive.
The Stirling-Rawdon Police Service responded to a total of 27 calls for service including ambulance assists, a pair of theft complaints and numerous harassing phone call complaints. Stirling officers also issued several parking tickets and Highway Traffic Act citations.
But the weekend of Hogfest activities, including several indoor and outdoor events from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon, proved a pleasant surprise for law enforcement offi-cials who "did not receive even one call for service in regard to the festivities," Foley says. "Hats off and well done to the Hogfest organizers," he adds.
