EMC Lifestyles -Foxboro - Royal Canadian Legion officials from Stirling, including World War II veteran Ted Morin, arrived at Foxboro Public School last week to recognize several students for their entries in last year's poster and literary contest.
Foxboro Public School students were recognized for their poem and poster submissions to last November's Legion competition. Winners, flanked by Legion representatives Linda Clarke and Ted Morin, include (l-r) Dalton Martin, James Cameron, Sam Roy, Hannah Stenvers, Emma Crago, Elayna Reid, Kendra Steele, Calia Williams and Sydney Pothier.
Principal Steven Tofflemire introduced students to Youth Education Co-ordinator Linda Clarke at an afternoon assembly in the gymnasium before the winners were announced and Clarke discussed the importance of the Remembrance Day program to both students
and Legion members. Judges for the competition, she says, were very moved by the submissions. "Our veterans are looking at them," Clarke said of the posters, poems and essays, "and it means so much to them." She added it was also impressive to see so many primary entries.
Winners included Calia Williams, 1st place (Junior b/w poster), Emma Crago, 3rd place (Intermediate b/w poster), James Cameron, 1st place (Primary colour poster), Hannah
Stenvers, 2nd place (Primary colour poster), Elayna Reid, 3rd place (Primary colour poster), Sydney Pothier, 1st place (Junior colour poster), Dalton Martin 1st place (Junior poetry), Calia Williams, 2nd place (Junior poetry), Kendra Steele, 3rd place (Junior poetry), Sam Roy, 2nd place (Intermediate poetry).
The Legion's public speaking contest for the branch will be held on Sunday, February 26, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Stirling Legion.
