Junior Spirits sweep double header

EMC Sports - The Belleville Spirits junior girls basketball club started the 2012 season off on the right foot by sweeping a pair of exhibition matches with their Toronto Lords opponents last Sunday at the St. Theresa Secondary School gymnasium.

Game one of the twin bill saw the local ladies blast out of the gates registering a solid 55 -26 victory over the visiting Lords squad. Gia Spiropoulos led the Belleville attack with ten points along with Erin O'Brien and Ashley Solmes who had eight each.

The second contest was a much closer affair with the Spirits staging a late game rally to down the Toronto line up 63 -55. Mikayla Brennan and Spiropoulos hooped 15 points apiece while Solmes had ten to lead the Belleville offense. The Toronto Lords were coached by former Centennial Charger high school basketball graduate Greg Lawrence.

The 2012 Junior Spirits team roster also includes Brooklyn Lonsberry, Hailey Graham, Summer Mc-Curdy, Laura Goetz, Sydney Moorman, Michelle Bunton, Haillie Tebo and Sarah Doucette. The Spirits are on the road next Sunday afternoon in Kingston to participate in a tri-meet series of competitions versus the hometown Kingston Cats and the Brockville Blazers.
